There are several types of contact lenses available, each with its own unique characteristics and benefits. Here are some of the most common types:

  • Soft contact lenses

These lenses are made of soft, flexible plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to the cornea. They are comfortable to wear and come in a variety of types, including daily disposable, weekly disposable, monthly disposable and extended wear.

  • Rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses

These lenses are made of a rigid, oxygen-permeable material that allows for good oxygen transmission to the eye. They can provide sharper vision than soft lenses but may take longer to get used to.

  • Toric contact lenses

These lenses are designed for people with astigmatism, a condition in which the cornea is shaped more like a football than a basketball. Toric lenses are available in both soft and RGP materials.

  • Multifocal contact lenses

These lenses correct for both distance and near vision and are designed for people with presbyopia, a condition that affects the eyes' ability to focus on close objects.

  • Coloured contact lenses

These lenses are available in both prescription and non-prescription forms and can be used to enhance or change the colour of the eyes.

  • Hybrid contact lenses

These lenses have a rigid gas permeable centre surrounded by a soft lens material. They provide the benefits of both RGP and soft lenses.

  • Scleral contact lenses

These lenses are designed to cover the entire cornea and part of the sclera, the white part of the eye. They are used for a variety of conditions, including severe dry eye, corneal irregularities, and post-surgical complications.
